223
Tack-Hammer : FDR
The
FDR stands for the Dime size groups routinely found through the
target paper. The FDR employs 416 stainless steel
integrally compensated match barrels and routinely shoot ½”
groups at 100 yards.
Although these .223 guns are nowhere near as invigorating to
shoot as the big bore Sledgehammers, they do get the job done; and
look pretty damn cool to boot.
That’s good enough for us.

Tony shot this .4" group at 100 yards with a
Tromix AR chambered in 17 Remington.
The first shot from the clean bore went a little
low. Shot #2 through #5 went into 1/4".
Some 17 Remington customers have reported getting 1/4 groups
using the 30gr Starke bullet, which is what I used to shoot
that group to the right.

The 20 Tactical employs a standard .223 cartridge
case, but is necked down to .20 caliber with a sharper, 30 degree
shoulder angle. Hornady currently manufactures a 20 caliber 33
grain V-Max bullet and Berger produces .20 caliber bullets with 36
grains.
This 100 yard five shot group shown above was
fired by Tony Rumore during test firing a TR-15 TackHammer chambered
in Tactical 20. The group measures .35" and is typical of the
accuracy you can expect from the Tromix TackHammer rifles.
Below the new 20 Tactical cartridge flanked on
the left by a .223 and on the right by a 17 Remington. The .223 and
17 Remington employ the same 23 degree shoulder whereas the 20
Tactical has a bit more improved 30 degree shoulder. To make a .20
Tactical round, you simply run a .223 cartridge case through the .20
Tactical size die and you're good to go. General ballistics are as
follows:
17
Remington / 25gr @ 4125fps / 944fpe
17 Tactical / 25gr @
4250fps / 1,003fpe
20 Tactical / 33gr @
4000fps / 1,172fpe
204 Ruger /
32gr @ 4225fps / 1,269fpe
223 Remington / 55gr @ 3380fps / 1,396fpe
458 SOCOM / 300gr @ 2000fpe /

The .204 Ruger is the latest addition to the
Tromix Tack Hammer lineup. Hornady factory ammunition is available
off the shelf as well as reloading dies. Hornady also produces a 32,
33, and 40 gr V-Max bullets, or you can choose from many other
custom bullet makers. Velocity runs over 4200fps with the 32 and 33
grain bullets. Pictured here is the first production TR-15 rifle
chambered in .204 Ruger sporting a 25" Pac-Nor Super Match 1:12
twist bull barrel. Groups fired during the initial range test proved
that the factory ammunition is capable of 1/2" or better five
shot groups at 100 yards. Empty brass will be available shortly, but
in the interim, you can resize and fire from .222 Rem Mag cases
available directly from Huntingtons.
Complete rifles start at $1,350.
Uppers run $865 shipped.
